Meeting our Public Sector Equality Duty

View the Midlands and Lancashire Commissioning Support Unit (MLCSU) latest Annual Equality and Inclusion Report (2016/2017)

M&L CSU wants to ensure all parts of our local communities have fair access to NHS information, services and premises when they need to use commissioned healthcare services.

We know that not all people access or take up services in the same way and we want to try to take reasonable steps to accommodate these different needs, particularly for vulnerable protected groups.

The CSU is working hard to ensure not only that its services are appropriate and accessible for all members of our community, but that no one is disadvantaged or discriminated against by the services we put in place.

Each January, M&L CSU will publish an Annual Equality and Inclusion Report to show what we are doing to routinely collect equality data and use this information to ensure that our services and employment opportunities are fair and accessible to all. Under the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Specific Equality Duty, public sector organisations such as CSU must publish sufficient information to demonstrate that, in the exercise of its functions, it has ‘due regard’ (gives early consideration) to:

  • Eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation;
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not; and to
  • Foster good relations between people who share a relevant protected characteristic and those who do not.

Workforce Report: As part of our legal duty and commitment to the equalities agenda across Lancashire, Staffordshire and Central Midlands we annually publish our workforce data (within the Annual Equality and Inclusion Report). This data is broken down by (pay bands), age, gender, disability, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation, and where information is available we will report by gender reassignment (Trans issues), marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, and carers.

Note: Some data may be withheld from the report to comply with Data Protection Act requirements when publishing equality data.
